We'd like your travel experience to be a pleasant one. Passengers with checked baggage are asked to arrive 90 minutes before their flight's departure. Traffic, baggage check, and screening can take time and delays do occur. Give yourself plenty of time to comfortably board your flight. Learn more here about Check In & Boarding Cut-off times.
For questions about what you may check or carry on, visit the Transportation Security Administration's website tsa.gov. Be aware of security requirements to avoid loss of property and delays during the screening process. Information about checking wine is included below. For more information about checking baggage on Horizon Air, please visit horizonair.com.
Check In Without Bags
When traveling without checked baggage, passengers are requested to arrive 60 minutes before departure. Passengers without a boarding pass in hand at least 30 minutes prior to departure risk missing their flights. In addition, the Security Checkpoint closes 15 minutes before a flight's departure. It takes time to screen and board passengers. Airline and security personnel are required to adhere to these schedules so that aircraft can depart on time. Please do not risk missing your flight, build in extra time for delays.
You're allowed one carry-on bag, plus one personal item, such as a purse, briefcase or laptop computer.
Please note: Alaska Airlines or Horizon Air passengers traveling on tickets purchased or reissued on or after May 1, 2009 for travel on or after July 7, 2009, will be charged $15 for the first checked bag* and $25 for the second checked bag.
Passengers who are checking baggage are advised to arrive 90 minutes before departure. There is a $15 charge for the first bag checked, a $25 charge for a second checked bag, and a $125 for a third checked bag.
*The first checked bag service charge is pending Canadian government approval for passengers traveling to/from Canada.
Boarding
To accommodate all travelers on a flight, passengers must be checked in and available to board at the designated boarding gate at least 30 minutes before posted departure for all flights. Failure to meet these requirements may cause the cancellation of reserved seats and/or the entire reservation. Please allow yourself plenty of time to pass through screening and board on time, don't risk missing your flight!
Checking Wine: Special exception to checked-baggage policy at STS
No carry on alcohol is allowed. However, Horizon will accept a box of up to 12 bottles of wine per passenger at no extra charge from customers on flights departing Sonoma County. The wine must be packaged to courier standards for shipment. The liquid and gel ban by the TSA removed the ability of passengers to carry the wine they purchased on board, so Horizon developed this program in partnership with the Sonoma County wine community, allowing customers to purchase their favorite wines and sparing them the hassle and expense of shipping them separately.
Packing bottles of wine in checked baggage
Wine Skins ($2.50 each) are available for the leak-proof packaging of single bottles of wine in checked baggage (pack in baggage before checking in). Due to the terminal remodel construction, they are temporaily offered for purchase in the Airport Manager's office at 2290 Airport Blvd, directly east from the terminal entrance (across the short term parking lot), between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. When space allows, they will again be available in terminal vending machines.
There is no restriction on the amount of alcohol you may pack in your checked baggage, provided it contains under 24% alcohol by volume (e.g. beer and wine). Alcohol greater than 24% up to and including 70% (140) proof) is allowed with the following restrictions:
-
Up to five liters of alcohol per package
-
Up to five liters of alcohol per person
-
Must be in retail packaging
Alcohol over 70% (140 proof) is prohibited.
